Am looking at getting one of these but have found a few different versions of it. Two have 512mb GDDR3 ram - but one has Zalman cooling and the specs say it runs faster than the same card without Zalman. Does Zalman make a difference?

Thanx. The HD3850 is tempting but out of budget. Have found a 3650 at a better price elsewhere. Am waiting for comfirmation that it's the DDR3 model before I buy.

I don't game very much and need the card for photo editing and HD. Will be video editing eventually but I'm told quad core would be better for that (I have dual AMD 4000+ at the moment)

Yes, you are correct. A quad is the one part you want for video editing. Also if you're not gaming then the 3650 will be the better card to go for. It's brilliant at HD. It's just a shame that you can't get the 3850 as it has much better specs for not much more :(. That would render games a lot better and still have the wonderful features for HD.

Will do some serious looking around for prices then. Or sell a part of my body.

Btw I have a 400Watt power supply. Do you know if this would be an issue with the 3850?

Hahahahahaha :D No problem. I just noticed the X1900XTX reply . I was speaking to someone about the X1900XTX and their name is similar to yours "adam1v" :o. I was posting quite a bit yesterday and must have got mixed up lol.

You talked about getting the 2600XT, I then advise you on getting the HD3650, then a little while later I say that :D. What a dope I am lol.

Plenty of folk have advised me to get the HD3650 over the 2600XT saying it doesn't run any better than the 2600XT but it is cooler.

Have found an HIS HD 2600XT 512MB GDDR3 going for £42 (brand new), or a HD3650 512MB GDDR3 for £55 - also brand new.

Thank you Fire Wizard. Here it is:

I work for a hardware reviews site...we recently reviewed a PSU made by Deer and it was crap. Definitely time for a new PSU I think.

What is crap about it? Do some psu's not deliver the power they claim?

As for a new graphics card, there seems to be a lot of price dropping going on at the moment. Have compared the 3650 with the 3850 and there is no comparison! If I can sell a few bits I'll treat myself.

I read on another forum that when it blew it took some of the system with it and from the one page of posts I read the general feel was not a good one regarding this component.

I'm really glad that the 3850Pro is considered as it's a massive improvement over the 3650 ;). So go for it, treat yourself :D.

Heh heh, that I will.

There doesn't appear to be much difference between the 256 and 512mb versions. Barely any difference at all from the comparison I've seen.

Not yet. Am keeping an eye out for bargains (£60ish is the limit) as would like the 512mb 3850. Also need to get selling some gear to help finance.

Times is 'ard :(
