Question about colour profiles

Hi,

Just got a quick one about colour profiles.

If I'm right on this, sRGB is for images that are to be displayed on a screen and AdobeRGB 1998 is for printed images?

I've noticed I can check my camera properties when it's plugged into the USB port and it uses the sRGB profile, so am I best setting my monitor/graphics card to that profile in the colour management tab and then make sure that PE 5 uses it as well?

In the main my photo's are viewed on a monitor or TV, and I print the odd one here and there.

Before I print an image could I just change that images colour profile to AdobeRGB, or won't I notice that much difference if I print an image under sRGB?

Thanks in advance.

sRGB has a smaller gamut than Adobe RGB, for printing I would use Adobe RGB and for viewing maybe sRGB. I personally use AdobeRGB for both and haven't noticed any adverse effects yet.

Just a note on Adobe RGB for printing, places like photobox only accept sRGB so you would have to convert them.

Of course if you are printing them yourself that isn't an issue but I'd be suprised if the results you will get from a home printer will be better than somewhere like photobox so a moot point.
