I want to try and scan most or all of my negatives I have accumulated over the years.
All the scanners I have seen seem to only do one frame at a time which could take quite a while!

Are there any companies that can do bulk scanning or scanners that you can buy/hire that will do multiples or bulk feed negatives?

They are all 35mm colour.

Thanks
Andrew

Something like the Canon 8800F can scan 12 35mm frames in one sweep. There are other Epson equivalents too. Guess it depends how much you want to spend, and now much time you want it to consume.

Companies like Club35 do fairly decent 35mm scanning for a decent price.

Most of the nikon film scanners can have feeders fitted for both slides and strips. Problem is you will probably have the film in the strips of 5/6 as supplied by the place that develops them. Most scanners take up to 6 in a strip adapter anyway and the application can do all 6 in one go, although it takes a few minutes to scan each frame.

I've got both a Nikon coolscan V and a minolta scan dual 3 and they both do bulk scanning of negative strips. (up to 6) The minolta can do bulk scanning of slides too, which the nikon cannot. The minolta takes 4 slides at a time vs the nikon only taking 1.

as above though, with a flatbed that is capable of scanning negs, you can do a lot more in one go. (Quality isn't as good as a dedicated film scanner, but then there is a fair difference in price)

Thanks.
I think I was looking too low down the price range originally :)

The Club35 prices aren't too bad. Might consider that for some of them that I really want.
The Nikon and Minolta look good specs but not sure if they are still current? What are Plustek like as they seem to be widely available, but a flatbed like the Canon would probably do the job for most to be honest. I just really want to archive them as some are getting a bit battered now.

Another quick question. What sort of resolution do you scan your negatives at, and what sort of time does it take to do a strip of 6?

Thanks
Andrew

It really depends. I usually use 1200 DPI which is good enough for the print sizes i do. If you turn on FARE to get rid of the dust/scratches it pushes the scan time up. With FARE on minimum to just get rid of dust it take a few minutes per rack of 12. Then i usually sort out the colour balance in the scanning tool and the black/white levels and contrast / saturation in Photoshop

Everything in this Film set i scanned with the 8800F. Most are 35mm C41 with some 120 C41 and E4 slides:

I have the Epson Perfection V500

An excellent scanner that does normal scanning, negatives in strip up to 5 or 6, and slides. The results I have seen so far are excellent and I haven't used the best scan resolution or the adjustment software yet.

Cost me less than £200. Hope that helps
