Quick iPad 2/2012 3G/4G question

I have an iPad 2 3G, which my wife wants - so I can grab myself the minor upgrade that is the 2012 "not iPad 3 honest" thingy.

Now, my wife is a stay-at-homer so won't need the 3G - I was just wondering if my O2 tenner-a-month PAYG SIM will be transferrable to the new version iPad 2-and-a-bit.

Why do I feel it's going to be a resounding "no?"

Well, mobile phones are locked specifically so you can't do this, so I assumed iPads would be too.

If you bought the iPad2 sim-free from Apple then it'll be unlocked for any network.

If you bought it on a contract from a network provider then I guess they could have locked it but not sure if any of them do.

It does work! I tried it when I got the new ipad a few weeks ago and it still works fine!
