do you use partial metering? Apparently it s abetter way of metering when you have a uniform background - tarmac, dirt etc.

I've tried partial, centre weighted and evaluative and to be honest never been entirely happy with any of them, especially when you're taking jump shots, the riders alway underexposed. What I tend to do now is go with evaluative, pick shutter priority and dial in compensation if shooting against the sky or if the suns causing lots of reflections.

I'll also go manual if the lighting is reasonably consistent. Yesterday the sun was dodging behind clouds, we were getting rain showers, I was shooting two different situations from the same spot (one into the sun, one with the sun falling onto the subject) so just went with Tv and compensation.
