Quick NCB question

My insurance is up at the end of next month and ive had my reminder through the post, however the car is currently off the road.

Ive got 2 years NCB, if i dont renew is straight away will i loose it? Or have you got a period of time that you can be insured but keep your NCB?

I believe that most companies will accept up to a 2 year gap between policies. However a few will have shorter requirements - for example morethan state six months is their maximum.
 
well im no expert - BUT,

surely if youve paid for 2 years worth of insurance and havent claimed you'll have those 2 years till you next want to have car insurance?

that would seem fair? but insurance companies arnt always fair :(
