I would have instantly said that the 6600GT should be faster, however, in recent games like Quake4 and oblivion, larger textures etc are becoming more common, which card would actually be faster, the slower core and memory, but larger capacity of the 6600 Basic 256MB, or the faster mem and core but only 128MB of the 6600GT? The computer its going into would be limited to 1024x768 res, due to LCD (its an xmas build for my brother). Would the outcome depend on if AA was used (256MB being faster?)

Thanks,

Alex

aye, Im trying to work out which would be faster on todays games with larger textures like oblivion and quake, because Im not entirely sure :(

A 6600GT will always be faster than a vanilla 6600 regardless, to be honest. :)

The 6600s were really crippled compared to the GT in terms of shaders etc.

Thanks, unfortunately I missed the 6600GT by £1 but ahh well, my brothers still getting a 6600 256MB I already got him :D, Im sure it'll be a nice step up from his 9600Pro, even if it isnt as good as the higher end card. Saved me money, as Im skint after xmas shopping anyway (and only got paid yesterday  :( )

6600 is identical to the 6600GT except for much lower clocks (300\550 compared to 500\1000). That is all. Same graphics core.

And the GT uses DDR3 doesnt it? mine did anyway

Hehe, I heard about that, and saw some mental overclocks in some of the reviews I read, will be cracking out ATITool and seeing what its max mem and core speed will be definately :D
