Hi,

Just making sure iv not missed something really obvious, my PS3 is connected the following way.

  • PS3 to TV via HDMI
  • PS3 Opticle out to AV amp

No it seems the PS3 can only output via HDMI or Opticle, not both, is this correct?

I want to use the opticle hooked up to the amp for daytime gaming and movies, but late night it would be nice to just have the TV sound hooked up.

come on guys, what am I doing wrong.

I would like an answer to this too.
I have my PS3->TV via HDMI
And Stereo out via the other connector, but it seems like I have to select one or the other. Which is irritating. Thats why I have my TV outs connected to my speakers.

nothing

it is not possible to output the audio by more than 1 output simmultaneously on a PS3

if you want to listen to your PS3 via TV speakers late at night. You'll have to change it in the PS3 options. Its not possible to output audio via HDMI and optical.

or get an AV receiver that has a "night" mode and turn your sub off like i do :)

Well cheers for clearing that up, I do have a reciever with a night mode, but thats not really the point. sometimes you cant be bothered faffing with various remotes to get sound on, sometimes all you want is the TV.

Oh well, im hoping its a software issue rather then a hardware limitation, after all My 360 outputs both at the same time, so does my Pannasonic DVD HDD player, even my CD player output to digital coax and opticle at the same time.

If it is only software though, you would have thought they would have fixed it by now, theve had quite a few firmware releases.

it may well be a daft anti piracy measure owing to the fact that the PS3 is a bluray player out of the box

as such its got to keep the paranoid content providers happy. Anybody with a conventional Bluray player have the same issue ?
