Quick Q: French to English XP MCE?

Hi guys, my friend has a laptop with French localised XP MCE on it, am I right in assuming the only way to get the interface back into English is to re-install? If I download an English version of MCE and use the serial number from the French version will it work?

i dont think it will and the one you download m/s might stil notice that its illegel ect
