Evening all, I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem I'm havin with some new parts and I'm tryin to establish whether or not the motherboard's at fault.

It's the Gigabyte GA_P35C_DSR3 (rev 1.1) and I've heard about lots of problems that you may have with this board.

At first it wouldn't go past the POST screen, however after updating the bios that problem went away.

Now it won't load windows, it gets past the POST screen and shows the windows logo with the scroll underneath, then it just restarts. I tried safe mode and it restarts whilst trying to load MUP.sys.

So my question is this, does this sound like a motherboard fault or a windows issue? I've upgraded from a previous system and it boots fine when I put all the old components back in (motherboard, RAM, and processor are the only parts changed, HDD is the same). I tried reinstalling windows (although it's not a true reinstall as I got the PC from HP and it's just restoring it's default state) but it won't load it properly unless the original components are in.

Any help much appreciated!!

Yeah a link would be great vantorsen thanks!

I've searched all over the place and seems a restart issue is quite common with these boards although it tends not to get past the POST screen on the forum posts i've read.

It's looking like an RMA is likely! :(

I thought that at first too but the HDD is the one I'm using right now and works fine on the same windows install but with the old motherboard and ram etc. It being a software problems definately a possibility though so gonna try and get a hold of a clean copy of XP to test it.

Wow looks like you had a pretty hard time with it!!!!!

Yeah i'm gonna leave returnin it until i'm absolutely certain it's the mobo at fault.

I think that maybe the system set up that came with the PC is specifically for the hardware it came with (well, mobo and cpu at least) so i'm gonna give the XP reinstall a try.

Looks like this is gonna take a lot more messing around with before I get anywhere, I just hope that all this is worth it!!!
