Quickly help me please - so much lag on BF2142

This problem reminds me of one which I had with BF2 when I bought my X2 4400+. Set the affinity of the game to just one CPU core.

To do this;

Open up the game
Alt-Tab
Ctrl + Alt + Del
Click the Processes Tab
Find bf2142.exe (or similar)
Right click and select Set Affinity
Untick all boxes apart from one (either CPU-0 or CPU-1).
Go back into your game.

Are you on Virgin? They are terrible, worst ISP I have ever had. I had 8mb broadband but multiplayer was impossible, I would get 500ms and up pings on UK BF2 servers, WoW was unplayable etc. etc. and downloads crawled. Even late at night it was un-usable.

Virgin constantly told me it was my line, computer etc. but suprise suprise, as soon as I switched to Demon, my pings instantly dropped to 20ms and I can download and play BF2 at the same time.

I'm sure they've got better since Virgin Media was formed. I was with them before xmas and they were pants like you say. But I thin they've improved since then.
 
ok its happening again when its really bad. I join the game and seconds later i lose my connection to the server, it refreshes the list, i join once its finsihed loading i loose my connection. My Ping is only around 30-50

Could this be maybe a faulty router? I have noticed all night that roughly once every 5 minutes the net will just go, and the page will be loading loading loading lasting for abot 1 mintue. Then once all the pages that are trying to load apage say cannot connect, of whetever message the display, its 100% fine again.

Just done a speed test and this is what i got:

I'm with Virgin Media also, I was with Telewest until Virgin took over, and quite frankly in the last month or two the service has been horrible. Constant packetloss, high pings, disconnects etc etc. My brother who lives 10 minutes away has been having the exact same problems with Virgin Media. At least with Telewest if there was a problem, they admitted it and fixed it promptly, nothing seems to be happening now at all.

Seriously considering changing ISP.

Can't say for certain this is the same problem you're having, just the problems i'm having as well as a lot of other people I know who use Virgin Media now.
 
This seems very similiar to a problem I was having with Telewest a month or two ago where my upload connection would drop right down with huge packetloss problems. After emailing the tech support I got a reply saying that there was a s/n ratio issue with my connection and it has been fixed; I haven't had any problems since.

Your upload should definitely be higher, around 360kbps+.

aynone know what i can do to fix this as its only on bf2142 and not my interenet. My net speed is very very high as its one of the top from virgin if not the top (don't know the speed though as mum deals with that) and also just got the latest patch and installed that and that was downloading at around 400-500.

So anyone?

Im pretty sure its not this as i dont always have the problem, its just every now and again. When I next get it as bad as it was last night i will try this and post back.

Thundy Cat: What do you mean Americas Army? A game called Americas army or just the team in bf2142? No to the first never heard of it, i play whatever team im put on 2 the second one.

The reason I mentioned Americas army is because there is a bug with punkbuster which installed 2 different pb exe files in your windows/system32 folder. These 2 files are set to startup in windows services.Anyway to cut a long story short they where causing major lag and had to be disabled,I wondered if it was causing you grief playing bf2142.

i know this is an old thread but its happening again for last few nights.

I keep getting either connection lost beofre i get to join a server, or i join, getanything from 1 second to a minute and its connection lost and im chucked out. My ping hovers around 15-30 so its not that, and also it doesn't matter what map i choose, e.g. one with 5 people connected and only allowing 16, or one with 60 people connected allowing 64.

this only happens now after around midnight, its as though the interent provider is trying to be sneaky and give me a rubbish connection that is unstable. Is this possible

anyway to test it out?
