Take a chunk out of real wood and you still have real wood with a chunk taken out.

Do the same with chipboard veneer and you have a mess.

That's called Patina & it's part of the beauty of old wooden furniture.

Have you checked over the cupboards he made for your Dads GF ? Does he use dovetail joints & what wood does he use ?
