r5 1600

asus b350 strix

everything at default in bios. voltage fluctuates around 1.35V Idle temp of 38 degrees.

My friend has the same setup (same board and cpu) and his default is around 1.25V and 28 degrees.

I am pretty green about this stuff but I was under the impression around 1.2V is the base and 1.35V is the sort of voltage you set when applying an OC?

Should I set manual voltage in the bios?

thx

So reading around it seems it is within safe limits - just some chips need less volts than others? Guess I lost the silicon lottery on this chip.

Not sure if it's still true but Asus used to be a bit volt-keen on auto. I took my current CPU off auto, dropped the volts and overclocked it on those reduced volts - they were stupidly high to begin with.

This board uses voltage offset, rather than just letting you specify a voltage. I am going to have to read up a bit on this before messing about.

thx all
