Oh dear it looks like Fudzilla has been duped yet again, the documents he recieved were false and AMD has confirmed there will be no R650 / 670 and there never was going to be one apparantly.

Computex 07: There is no 65 nm R600

We learned a disturbing bit of news and that is that all the information about the 65 nanometre part, including the “leaks within AMD”, were false.

AMD wants to find some high profile mole(s) and deliberately planted these two codenames and a chip specification.

Fudzilla has seen these documents and can confirm that there were at least a few mentions of R650 or R670, but I have to dissapoint you all, as it is not real.

R600 is the best you will see from ATI until Christmas and you will have to find your peace with it.

Yes it does get very boring.

Oh Tom, just wanted to ask you what do you think of the HD2900XT overall, performance, reliability and driver support, since im thinking of upgrading my GPU, i am considering a HD2900XT.

It's not so bad ive got all the performance ive needed, ive noticed in most of my games its around as fast as my old GTS. I hate the fan noise though.

I think i may not just go for ATI for a while.
It looks like AMD need to redo the whole management issue etc.

Well i ain't to worried if its christmas as then i know what i prob get for
my christmas may even go the whole way and put 2 of ati's new cards in
for lots of horse power but only if they on par with nvidias top end.

If it is true I guess it will slow Nvidia down as well as there is no need for them to develop the new card in any rush, also prices will remain high for longer.

A lack of competition won't slow nVidia down. They need to constantly produce newer faster cards to keep making money.

It would be different if we rented the cards from NV, so that they get a regular income, but the fact is that everyone who currently owns a GTS/GTX is of no use to nVidia. They already have our money, and won't be getting any more until they produce a better card.

As for ATi, where do they go now? Hopefully they've abandoned development of the R600 completely, and are concentrating on R700. NV will have a new card out before Xmas, and ATi really need to produce a competitive part by then.

I think >90% of their revenue comes from OEM's and slower cards like the 8500/8400/8200 cards so I can imagine Nvidia relesing newer midrange and budget cards like they have done already but I do think it will slow down development of a new range of card like 9800/9600/9400/9200 (if they decide to use those names with it being old ATI cards)

Is it not just the FX range all over again though? ATI/AMD will get over it, swings and roundabouts stylee...
They are doing alright in the mid-range/OEM sectors at the moment aren't they?

Wrong and I don't know why you keep saying that, ATM the R600 is ATi's baby It's the fastest card they have out ATM and the only chance of rivalling NV even if just a little. They are working on bringing improvements to the table ;) , the 680 is the next chip not the 700 fyi.

Their only chance of rivalling Nvidia, rivalling what, their not doing anything, its just a GTS performer, if you want a GTS your just gona buy a GTS, its much cheaper and has more memory, if you want faster they cant rival as thats the only card they have out, yet Nvidia have a much faster GTX, and even faster than that they have an Ultra, theres just no reason to buy a 2900 at all.
