In this regard, I actually agree with dd. Whether he has a single valid point on race issues or not, I'm happy that the forum mods allow threads like that to be opened and stay open until it degenerates into nothing worth reading (normally around the second page).

But I do love the fact that dirtydog is comfortable enough to reopen the debate with a tenuous point knowing fully well the mods wont/cant do anything about it. Id be annoyed if I was being made a mockery of...

Maybe you should post on a forum in which you know all your opinions are welcome. One in which other posters' usernames are along the lines of 'White Wolf of Odin' or other nonsense.

As I say, several RTMs were received and on the balance of them I closed the thread. As SPW says, free speech isn't entirely free.

Didn't you have your 'free speech' infact arent you still?? ultimately you can write what you like but you cant always expect to keep that conversation/thread 'open'.

I didn't know what response I would get. Obviously, I knew some would disagree with me, but I didn't know what proportion.

Indeed, but as you can see it didn't work out that way so learn form the experience and make sure that your opening post has the relevant points you wish to debate and that they are made in not such a way as to be seen as simply trolling or reactionary.

I am sure that you are intelligent enough to see why such contentious debating points need to be clarified sooner rather than later.

I think in terms of inter-racial marriage there isn't a lot to discuss, it's an inherently emotive subject wherein any conclusions can only be drawn from personal preference - this renders the entire debate useless. Such a debate only really serves to offend people.

Of course I know it was a contentious thread, but aren't those the most interesting kind and which provoke the most interesting debate?

I wasn't trolling, I was going to participate throughout the thread rather than sitting back as has been implied.
