I just basically exchanged a Athlon ii x4 2.8ghx for a Phenom ii x 4 3.0ghz for £20.

Currently got a radeon 4890 with accelero twin turbo after market cooling attached (takes up 3 pci slots!) for sale on auction, looking to get around £100.

When this sells i've got an extra £100ish just over to upgrade graphics, makeing around £200ish.

So far it was a athlon 2.8ghz quad, radeon 4890 and cheapish mobo... with 4gb ddr2,

Spent £20 on processor upgrade, now got the extra £100 ( £200 after sale of 4890) for GPU upgrade, bearing in mind I want to upgrade motherboard next for either sli or xfire.

Got my eye on 6870 or gtx470, loooking for best power to price considering next mobo has to be either amd or nvidia chipset?

Don't worry bout the "duplicate" thread as there are differences in what you're asking, that thread is focussed on a single gfx card set up where as you've stated future dual set up, whilst I concur with other thread that a 470 edges it on the single set up, a 6870 is my recommendation to you with possible dual set up in mind, 2 reasons, 1) you'll have much better choice of better mobo's that provide Xcode support than those that do SLi (which are few and far between nor as good IMO) 2) the Xcode scaling on the new 6000 series cards is meant to be excellent and as such 2 6870s prob trounce 2 470s
Edit: make sure when you upgrade mono you go for 890 chipset
