Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

There's no meaningful difference between Nvidia dropping their price now or the day AMD launches the 480. Either way, the result will be the same - 480 reviews lead directly to 1070 price drop. Whether the product is actually available or not isn't going to change anything.

I've only seen a tiny handful of people saying that.

I'm not sure how that helps your point anyways. If they are set on a 1070, then they're gonna buy a 1070. Whether 480 reviews come out now or later isn't going to change that. :/

It will if its good enough and Nvidia dont drop their price.

As always Im hopeful but last few times have been a disappointment. Last great card from AMD was the 7970 and maybe the 290x which has taken time to flourish.

AMD are mad because wccf are making up BS that is going to create massive disappointment and negative sentiment to their brand.

No they are mad because they don't want Nvidia to respond by lowering the prices of the GTX 1070/980 Ti/980 before they launch (anymore than they already have). Sapphire wouldn't be posting it on their Facebook page if it wasn't true. Do you honestly think the card would be stuck at 1266Mhz on 14nm? It's good to keep expectations low, but doubting the card will hit 1500mhz is stretching it a bit. Sure, Fiji was an overclocking disaster, but that is the only AMD/ATi card that hasn't clocked beyond stock speeds ever.

If Nvidia dont drop their price, then it doesn't matter whether they release the reviews now or later! lol

See what I'm saying? Nothing changes either way.

The longer they wait, the longer Nvidia are shipping their cards to retailers at higher wholesale prices.

The difference is that the whole Internet will be full of review sites stating that the RX 480 is the better buy because it offers performance that is close to the GTX 1070 at a much lower price. If Nvidia has time to respond, that won't be the case.

shipping what ? we are 3 weeks after the 1080's launch and nvidia is still shipping very small numbers to retailers, most custom cards didnt show yet, and not that many ppl aren't interested in throttling overpriced FE.
AMD isn't losing much, and from the look of it stock wise they are more ready than 10series's launch.

?

Gibbo has claimed the 1080 has outsold the 970 in a similar time frame since launch and from the 1080 thread, it seems most are coming in stock to fulfil preorders next week and at the very least by the end of the month.

Nvidia will have made an absolute killing whilst AMD have been sitting on their bums with this lengthy rx 480 nda.

Ok, rather than shipping, retailers are ordering at the higher prices

Pretty much confirms the 1500Mhz claims.

Seems an odd thing for them to do if AMD are supposedly so mad at wccftech for the leaks ( ie their biggest board partner linking it on social media...)

From the other thread almost every card slipped from initially being told available on 27th may(before that time) then 3rd June, then 17th June and now 1st July.... but exactly what makes that July 1st promise any better than the others?

Also selling cards is one thing, the massive majority appear to be pre-orders, if they haven't shipped because no one has the cards to sell they don't count as sales... not least because multiple people have cancelled.

So no, most dates seem to be early July, not next week and there is no proof that date is any more real than any of the others.

Then again we move to the fact that GIbbo works for a retail store of computer parts, what benefit would it be to say there is no stock and they are selling poorly when trying to get people to desperately buy cards that aren't in stock and have no official realistic due dates? The way to encourage sales is to say "these are selling so quickly and so brilliant that everyone is lapping them up", you panic people on the fence into ordering thinking they might lose out if they don't. Regardless of the truth, it's fairly unlikely Gibbo would admit sales were bad and stock was terrible if that was true because there is no benefit.

More to the point, $650-750 cards selling better than $300 cards... absolutely do not believe that.

This doesn't make any sense. It will be the same either way.

If anything, this is giving Nvidia far more time to respond. But if they aren't going to respond til reviews actually come out, then it doesn't matter WHEN those reviews come out, the reviews will say the same thing. Make sense?

If someone is buying a 1080, why would they be interested in a 480 anyway? They're in different ends of the market.

because it's a new product, it's finaly a shrink from 5 years long 28nm to 16nm finfet, because of marketing, the initial demand is expected to be high but should and will slow down pretty fast, 970 which at launch it wasnt that great but later on catched up on sale overtime, great seller in the long run.
so yes early release pre-orders doesnt mean it will be a great seller in a long run.
and again thats my point , they are not solding out because they have universal shattering demand, there is just not that much of a stock everywhere.

Ok, rather than shipping, retailers are ordering at the higher prices

again not enough stock, say what, why are we arguing about this, you said your opinion, and i said mine, Q3 results will show us what's what.

Just like you didn't believe Nvidia would come to market first with the GP104 and just like you believed there would be no way a card with GDDRX5 would be available as early as May :p

:D
