Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

?

Gibbo has claimed the 1080 has outsold the 970 in a similar time frame since launch and from the 1080 thread, it seems most are coming in stock to fulfil preorders next week and at the very least by the end of the month.

Nvidia will have made an absolute killing whilst AMD have been sitting on their bums with this lengthy rx 480 nda.

Only on preorders. Take the STix. Gibbo has taken 1000 pre orders and i am not sure if he has shipped one yet.

Just like you didn't believe Nvidia would come to market first with the GP104 and just like you believed there would be no way a card with GDDRX5 would be available as early as May :p

:D

They didn't really came first...they made a paper launch prior to the real release date...after which they still cannot ship the cards in mass.
So they just talked big months ahead just to be the first.
The shortage of cards weeks after release, and long after the paper launch is starting to look bad, and they outdo the last year Fury X launch with it as it seems.

They ship them almost daily apparently but only in small amounts as they only receive small amounts.

So maybe 5 or 10 per day so will take 3 months to clear back orders of just the Asus alone?

And Ben from EVGA have said FTW wont even be here till one week into July if you are lucky.

Even retailers in the states arent getting them yet. EVGA are manging about 10 a day for preorders from their US site.

I must admit I havent seen such a poor "hard" launch in years.,

Its starting to look like they rushed them to market to get them out before AMD get their cards out.

Total domination by amd and the 480.
total ownage.
a magical card series.
One that once its lifetime is over years and years from now people still be talking about it.

but Pascal? what was that?
ah yes the extra 100$ tax series

Its not starting to look like it was obvious from the start.
The first time i heard "founders edition" i knew they cannot ship in mass, and want to milk the early adopters

They have sold 1000's (probably tens of thousands) at nicely inflated prices, that is all they care about .

...and yes they did come first. You could buy a 1080 on the 27th May and you wont be able to buy an RX480 till the 29th June. By definition, they came first :p

My thoughts exactly .....Nvidia are cashing n rushing in

This doesn't make any sense. It will be the same either way.

If anything, this is giving Nvidia far more time to respond. But if they aren't going to respond til reviews actually come out, then it doesn't matter WHEN those reviews come out, the reviews will say the same thing. Make sense?

What is Nvidia's response going to be? Are they going to lower prices to dampen the AMD launch? If so then why should anyone buy an Nvidia card before the 29th?

All early adopters will be a bit peeved off or is Nvida going to refund the difference to everyone who bought one before any upcoming price drop?

Maybe they have sold thousands.. to the thousands of fanboys/gals that wud never switch to AMD anyway.. so AMD aint losing out on anything right now.

Even if the 480 was 1080 perf for $300, those same people already buying 1080's wudnt buy a 480 anyway, thats how it is and AMD know this.

Could be the 260 and 280 all over again :D

I have decided to stay out of until the dust has settled.

The 1080 in my computer disagree's with you and it wasn't a struggle to get and looking at OcUK's 1080s, there has been stock available but I can't see any 480s for sale so they really did come first and by quite a big time.

Indeed. I had a 1080 G1 on its way to me from Amazon a week a go and I wasn't even paying much attention, just ordered it on a whim.

Cancelled it and got it returned to sender though as it would have been a silly buy ( for me anyway).

I don't know if this wasposted or not:

"This particular $300 Rx 480 OC Edition will have toggle with two bios options - Standard bios of 1266mhz and Extreme bios of 1500mhz - All 6+8 pin models will be able to reach the 1500mhz mark - the only difference is some editions will have a overclock bios setting that will be set at the 1500mhz mark - while other cards will have to be done manually although today its easy to do manually by just a few clicks of a button with software - While running at 1570mhz - the OC edition runs at 72c with 99% gpu load with 65% fan - one impressive feat to say the least - This bodes well for AMD's new Polaris cards as it shows these cards are capable of even more than this impressive 1570mhz mark - In fact, in a closed box setup, we were able to "easily" obtain 1600mhz while running Battlefield 4 for over an hour with zero crashes or artifacts all while keeping below the 75c mark while using 99% gpu load - Even more impressive is the fact that the voltage usage leaves room for even a bit further tweaking to further our overclock past 1600mhz - One has to wonder what AMD has with the entire lineup of Vega right now - we can only imagine pure bliss in terms of performance at the top enthusiast level - AMD really does have something special on their hands. The Rx 480 while running 1500mhz is on par with the stock 1070 in-game, it even beats it on some games at this clock, anything more and the 480 begins to put some distance between the two cards. Keep in mind this is Dx12 games, this is where GCN 4 truly shows off."

You cant say that when there are approx 2000+ people who still havent got their 1080 from ocuk 3 weeks on from launch.

Yes people who were happy to have an FE can buy one today.

The many others who preordered, then getting the emails every week about the delay are agreeing with me.

I think a price drop is the least of Nvidia's worries if the 480 could actually come close to a 1070. If AMD's low end parts end up competing with Nvidia's high end, what happens when the high end come out or even if AMD announces a full Polaris.
