Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

So from my point of view that's not all bad. I'll only be running 1080p, and the price difference between the 980 and the 480 is what over £100? I'm not that desperate for an extra 10fps!

The million $ question is, "What will the 1060 bring?"

If it's 980 perf at £250 ish, then for me it's the better option.

480 might be under-powered even for 1080p going forwards.

So are there actual reviews and benchmarks yet? Googling still just reveals conjecture and fakes and this thread has moved really fast. I gather it's somewhere between a 390 and 390X but for less dosh than either?

Lol why don't just rebrand 290 for third time :p seriously nothing impressive about this card and price just make it an 'ok' card nothing more

That review seems pretty ****. Doesn't give any info about what clocks other cards had, nor if they're reference cooled or aftermarket cooled..

Pointless..

Best performance/price ratio I bet.. Hopefully 480 will bring prices down..

So this thing isn't even faster than a 970?! I've waited a long time to purchase this card, but if that holds true, count me out! A second hand 390x or 980 is the way to go then.

Cant watch ToTs review with sound (at work) did he mention which drivers he is using ?
You'd think he'd have gotten press drivers, yea?

Surely AMD didn't just send them out to only a few publications. Would be incredibly dumb to send review cards out to tons of reviewers and not give them the appropriate drivers to represent the card properly.

Looking more like there are not going to be any magic drivers.

Some people just can't grasp it or understand, I just checked another major OcUK competitor a bit further north and their 1070 and 1080 pricing, wow, Strix 1070 in stock at £560, OcUK is £499. We have adjusted to new rate, seems some have adjusted and then added a lot more on top......

Off topic. Please keep the conversation to the RX480.

So if a game uses async shaders, we shouldn't compare DX12 performance with Nvidia cards, either?

Except he also didn't bench Total War using DX12, he used DX11, and only used Tomb Raider for 12.

Interestingly enough the games he used full Gameworks features in the 480 handily beat the other AMD cards.

The 970 EXOC- the only 970 ToT is using, is around £50-60 more than the rx 480. so pretty ridiculous to compare it to that eh?
No? Have you ever seen a GPU review before? You dont ONLY show it against equal priced cards. It's useful to see where it stacks over a product range.

And it's very good to know how it holds up against cards £50-100 more or so so people know whether that extra money is worth it or not.

I hate to use this term, but you're sounding quite salty at the moment.

That explains no early review leaks, they would punish the card hard before release. I agree it's a pass unless you were planning to buy a 970 and don't mind high temperatures.

still well overpriced for a 1070, £500 plus is taking the mick for a 1070 lol its basically 1080 price level

the 1070 strix could have been had for £417 till last night when they stopped taking orders a £80 plus price additional is crazy

Interesting thing there is how well the 480 did in games like Fallout 4 and Creed with Gameworks on. It was a good bit better than the other AMD cards there. Also he benched the new Total War game at DX11, but Tomb Raider with DX12. Odd choice

So I'm going to wait for more reviews, to see what the overall performance is.

Not odd, the guy is a joke and his review style isn't an odd choice. Every single setting that hurts AMD, heavily overclocked 970..... not hard to tell who he is paid by.

Tomb Raider with DX12, a hastily added last minute Nvidia sponsorship, DX12 seemingly ripped out of the game for launch then added back in where it becomes pretty much the only game where DX12 performance regresses compared to DX11 and the only game where Nvidia has better DX12 performance improvements(or in this case lower losses) compared to DX11.

EDIT:- also temps mean nothing without fan noise. Take literally any card, run the card silently and it will run hot, run the fan at 100% and the noise will go up a lot and temps will come down. It's why any reputable review lists both together because one directly effects the other. Nvidia paid bad reviewer just says it's hot while using all Nvidia leading games with gameworks and the most broken DX12 game there is or will ever be.
