Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Best to add those affiliated with NVIDIA to your ignore list, they will never stop posting nonsense. It makes these forums a far better reading experience not having to wade through their cesspit posts.
You do realize that plenty of AMD 'affiliates' bring up Nvidia on their own and participate in these discussions harmlessly too, right?

This is really getting old. Seems the only people allowed to bring up Nvidia are AMD 'affiliates' and should anybody dare respond or disagree, they are painted as the instigators and bad guys.

I really feel like you and others who feel this way need to go find an AMD fanclub forum, because this is not one.

So, that PowerColor watercooling block shown at computex was too big for the 480 despite info telling us it was for Polaris.
Where did you find this out?

I own a 980M laptop, 390X desktop and soon to be 1080 desktop. I like both vendors, though simply dislike it when people affliliated/invested with NVIDIA/AMD spread nonsense in these threads.

Where did I find it out? D.P. admitted that he was subject to several NVIDIA NDA's and that his employer is heavily dependant/invested with NVIDIA - so he is clearly biased. Though reading his posts would tell you this.

You can do your own reading to find out other posters agendas.

:confused:Funnily enough I told people the exact opposite.

Now I will repeat this for the last time. Neither my employer or myself have any affiliation, investment or dependence with nvidia in any official or unofficial capacity. All NDAs are null and void, all information obtained under NDA is now public domain and the extent of that information was exceedingly limited (basic drive px2 exists, is based on pascal and is being used by auto OEMs) and was public domain before being acquired so was meaningless.

Power colour had a single and a dual chip WC set up at CEX. They might make a devil 13 version with the 480. Although it could just be for the old one and the dual pro.

I did just say talked about, not confirmed. I think it's more likely than a different/new chip.

I tried looking in my local CEX and they thought I was barmy!

:o:p

There's really no point in looking in here until the 29th :p

There's no reason to be here unless train wrecks haven't lost their appeal yet... Eventually, you learn to look away :p
True.

I'm hoping we hear a bit more at E3, though. AMD seem to have something going on there.

I can reason out who is biased quite easily. My problem was that you singularly targeted 'Nvidia affiliates', as if they are the only ones who are biased around here or something. And especially when AMD supporters are OFTEN the ones bringing up Nvidia in the first place, yet when other people respond, they get blamed and it's 'the usual suspects'. It's just getting annoying to see over and over.

That is extremely cheesy :D.

I don't understand the massive push for VR anyway and as much as I like the look of these cards, I have no interest in using them for VR in the near future.

I'm not really convinced by Vr either, it has a lot of hype behind it but ultimately I think it will be a passing fad like 3d monitors or multi screen.

Both vendors are trying to push a new feature as "must have" in a market thats quite stale. VR is too niche at the moment for me but looks interesting to have when it matures a bit. :)

It just feels like it's only one aspect toward having total immersion. Without realistic motion of the body or seat/chair I just don't think it would interest me.

I know these solutions exist but they're immensely expensive for an average user just now and other than a handful of games I just don't think VR vision alone would be very good for me.

The games that do work in VR are the business but it needs to come down in price and it needs way more support. From what I have played it really is the future. Assetto Corsa is my favorite so far along with War Thunder. These 2 need to be hacked to run on the Vive through Oculus home, support so far on the Vive is pretty crap.

Same. VR is one of those things where I will probably get it once it is widely supported by nearly all games and the headsets are cheap.

At the moment I have no real desire to shell out huge amounts of money it on something I can probably only use on a few games.

I tried a Vive the other day at a Lan event and I must say I think it's really good. However, the VR Hardware really needs a few killer software Apps or games that really hit home and also the cost to drop a few hundred quid for it to catch on quicker.

In all fairness AMD are trying to do a bit from the GFX card side with regards to VR entry level pricing and it would be nice to see Nvidia do something similar when the 1060 arrives, but it's the VR headsets that need to be cheaper for the consumer to even start thinking about VR to be honest.

I think for AMD it is just a new angle to aim for at the moment with their new cards as VR is the current buzz word in Gaming. Nvidia went all "VR Ready" on their cards from 970 upwards a while ago IIRC. They all need a new angle as "Its faster than the last lot" is taken for granted these days.

Absolutely, however I do think it will go mental if those things happen hopefully within the next 12-24 months. Mind you, having 40 million PS4s out there that will apparently run the PSVR "awfully", will not help widespread take up of the concept. Hence the introduction of the PS4K/Neo.

Even this there are so many games that I just feel won't suit it. Think about playing something like Civ 5/6 in VR, or an RTS of any kind. It just sounds clunky and confusing to me. Third person would be weird too, trying to get immersed in something while seeing your character in front of your own eyes.

It just seems really strange to me. Though I do admit some game types such as FPS games could be fantastic with it.

Well they do say that Luckeys Tail is really good in VR as it adds an extra dimension. However, it's the FPS that everyone really wants to have a go at with VR. The thing is they do have one main problem and that is how they decide to handle the aiming of the gun in combination with the 'Free Look' with the headset. If you think about that for a minute it would be quite a tricky thing to master and to get just right. I hope they manage to do it as it will make things like Battlefield a truly amazing experience.

Then these cards are not for you.

Not sure how you can just say that, but maybe he just isnt into VR. I am sure there are a lot more things these cards can be used for other than VR, like playing great games at 1080 and 1440P for a lot lower outlay than we were used to.
