Will this be the next card to be very overclockable?,waiting to see what best 7600 or this on speed and price
In keeping with this recent trend, ATI is announcing the launch of their new Radeon X1800 GTO graphics card. With an MSRP of $249, this new model is essentially a modified Radeon X1800 XL GPU with fewer pipelines and ROPs. Here, we see a slight decrease from 16 pipelines down to 12 as well as a drop in ROPs from 16 to 8. Each GPU is equipped with 8 vertex shaders however as ATI has chosen to keep those resources intact for optimum performance. Looking at these basic specifications, it is certainly impressive to think that this is a $249 graphics card that has all of the features and functionality of the Radeon X1800 series of GPU's.

It really wouldn't be worth it at that price, $50 more gets you a 7900GT which would be far, far faster than that.

yea, then again when the 7800gs came out its price dropped really quickly, so i'd expect it to become a bargain within a month or so.

7800 GS prices have hardly changed since they were released......

True, but then the 7900GT would not really be worth it either, as you can get the faster X1800XT.

But for those on a strict budget the X1800GTO (256 bit) should be great, its price will be close to 7600GT (128 bit) shortly after release i would imagine as thats the card its really meant to be competing with, & beating. :)

would be nice if you could open up the extra 4 pipes that the X1800XL has

Its based on the R520 core. So that will be possible via a BIOS Flash if they havnt laser cut the pipes themselves.

HI there

Yes I do believe the X1800 GTO's do unluck and will be approx £120 - £140+VAT when they arrive. :)

Makes them miles better value than the 7900GT... First one to write a guide to do it gets a choccy? :p

That's good value - it is also not crippled like the 7600 with the 128bit memory bus - why did nV do that?

If you look at the reviews with the GTO in them, you will see that the 7600GT is for the most part faster than the GTO. The 7600GT is also supposed to retail at $199 compared to the GTO price of $249. For $199 it's a smashing little card IMO

The performance is somewhere in the region between a 6800GS and 7800GS, which isn't bad considering they have 256bit memory buses.

That's an interesting read actually. CoD2 and BF2 show the GTO performing about on par with a 7800GT but then it falls over in a lot of other tests. On the whole, for some reason the GT is faster whereas looking at it on paper you wouldn't expect that.

If the GTO DOES infact unlock it will be ultimately a faster card, also curious as to the drivers issue as remember there will be a driver to optimise that ATi card as the x1800xt's reached their peak at 6.2

Also the games where the 7600 GT does shine is on all the Nvidia Biased games really and if anything the gap is marginal in others! IF you look at CoD 2 for example the GTO owns!

Edit-------------------

Oh yeah give the GUru 3d review a read where the mention that the card looks suspisiously like a moddable to x1800xl speeds card

http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/327/2/

Also the performance details are a lot better here and witht he main difference being that it does outperform the 7600 GT in FEAR hmmmmmmm, reviews are very different!

Thanks.. didnt spot it earlier but did find one elsewhere. I'm gonna wait until prices get closer to the £120-140+VAT rather than the premium price we all pay for being first to own....

Wonder if they do unlock at all..... ;)

I was going to hold out for the x1800gto, but price wise no point, another £17 you get an xl, or £30 less you get a 7600gt, why would you buy this card?

And the X1900GTO is out when?

Good point.. waste of money at the current price.. at £120+VAT it would have been worth a punt but not worth it at current price... for a little more U can get a 7900GT or for a little less a 7600GT with virtually same performance

I just got a 7600GT. Absolutely brilliant little card. If your looking for something in this price region then I would recomend it over the GTO. However, if the GTO does unlock,... then thats another story all together.
