Radiator leak

For all those EXPERTS, not all fittings have olives in that location, some have flared fittings, all my rads have flared fittings.

Who said all fittings did have olives in that location? Who claimed that they are experts? Oh and mine all have olives just incase you're interested.
 
i dont have any central heating (my place is like an oven normally cool it all down) so wouldnt know tbh but i would just buy a new fitting and be done with it..
 
I guess any use of PTFE tape in a compression fitting is always going to be a botch, the thread isn't the thing that seals, it is the olive. The correct thing to do is replace the olive and refit, or replace that section of pipe as well if it is badly squished. Tape does sometimes work though, as does leaving the sediment to fill the hole.

Curious, I've never heard of flared joints except on brake lines, I guess it predated olives?
