I've wanted one of those things for over 25 years :(
One day.....

The nitro monster trucks are like 5-7kg in all. The buggies are slightly lighter at like 3.5kg.

Depending what sort of land you want to go on depends what sort of car you go for. If on an offroad track then it would be a 1:8 buggy for me everytime. Loved going about with my mates Hyper 7 Sport, great fun.

JAMAL,

Yeah I meant maxbashing. I am a member there, lol, just been out of the hobby for about a year now so a bit out of touch. Was looking at a petrol before, can't beleive how the prices are coming down.

Tempted now? :D :D

Got a HPI Baja 5B myself.

Great peice of kit and very easy to run.
Maintenance is pretty easy on the buggy as well.

Only bad things about it are that the stock shocks suck and some parts still bend, teething problems really.

How fast do these things go and what sort of weight are they?

Warning.
Non technical reply coming up.

******* fast & ******* heavy.

Coincidently a dude came in the shop today with his Petrol R/C car. Awesome piece of kit slightly bigger than those pictured above, when picking it up although one hand is enouth you feel the need to use two, so farely weighty. We fired it up in the yard & it sounded like a chainsaw :p spinning round doing doughnuts & the like but to limited for space to let it rip.
I challenge any bloke to be around one of these without wanting one, they are excellent boys toys & a must have in my opinion. I am waiting for a 2nd hand bargain myself as we have a few blown apart ones laying around the back room for spares.

usualy 1 year or 60,000 miles ;)

seriosly 1 year on parts for an hpi savage but on most thers about 2000 upgrade parts of which you'll want a few because theres a lot of weak points on most especially monstertrucks

id recommend the losi lst2 or losi muggy

whats the warranty like, if any

There is none, more or less. Depends, if you smash it tough luck. But if arrives damaged can get replacement part.

The FG MT don't handle that well, it's just a Marder with larger wheels. MCD on the other hand designed it from the start as a MT.

I would pickup a Marder Race as a start.

Look into another couple of hundred quid for radio gear (20KG servo for steering, 11kg+ for throttle/brake) plus decent TX/RX with failsafe.

These things can break the legs of a man, and kill a dog. Imagine something 8kg at 30-50mph smashing into your leg.

id recommend the losi lst2 or losi muggy

This thread is about petrol cars, not nitro. Once you go petrol you don't go back.

Agreed.

The FG MT doesnt handle all that bad for what it is, i have 50wt shock oil and no anti roll bar and it does really well :)

Talking of which I was a bit dubious the strength of the HPI Baja, it was delayed due to problems.

I'm almost sure that video was proved to be fake, they even knicked the videos off other people!!!

1st jump is bad but after that :)

Normally, yes. But with a big bill (4 figures) for my Dolomite, I think I will have to pass on it for now.

Also I still got 3 RC Planes to build and 1 to test with the new motor I got for it. :p

I havent had anything break on my Baja tbh, and I bash hard.
Plenty of shock shafts bent tho, front arms bend after a while, rears too.
Towers tend to bend after a while.

Nothing ever broken though.

I've currently got a Traxxas Revo (Nitro Powered 4wd Monster Truck) and also own a Jato (2wd nitro stadium truck) aswell. Both are excellent cars for the money and I have enjoyed using them. The Revo does about 40, the Jato 55.

Those petrol trucks look absolutely awesome, the only thing which puts me off is the hefty price tag.

Having been into the Nitro scene for several years now, and been through the sweat and tears of buying my first Nitro model and having the joys of learning how to look after them , I am quite profficient now.

I love both my trucks, and there is nothing I love more than hearing them shift into second as they blaze past me. Unfortunately Nitro Cars have been banned from the park I used to race in - a little girl was hit and injured very badly by a HPI savage. A shame really - it only takes one irresponsible fool to wreck it for everyone else!

Is petrol much easier to look after? Do you have to tune the engines like Nitro models and perform after run maintenance to the same degree - eg after run oil, clean and re-oil air filters after each hour of running?

I'm currently thinking about getting a Schumacher Fusion - 1/10 scale Nitro Touring Car capable of hitting 80!
