OK. first post in this part of the forium and i am in no way pretending to know anything about photography. Bought a Fujifilm HS20EX recently and I had to go near Lakenheath today for work so stopped by. It was very foggy and it was looking a bit of a no show when about 10 cars suddenly turned up and people jumped out with pro cameras with huge lenses. Thankfully it turned out to be quite a show with about 20 F16s all converging to the apron and taking off. Most of these are static shots and through a fence so not going to win any awards. Thanks to the USAF!

nice shots, one of my many destinations this summer for photos.
What time did you get there, are they from the car park?

Arrived in the viewing area car park about midday but it was very foggy and was thinking of leaving an hour later. However, we could see some activity around a plane and it had its canaopy up. Waitied another 45 minutes and about 2pm it all started.
These shots were taken through the fence about 400m away from the car park along the small road that leads to some religous sect place!

The thing that struck me as strange was most the ground crew were in civvies and didnt have hi-vis clothing on.

how do you get access to a military air base ? Do they simply let visitors walk in or do yo uhave to have family in the forces. Also can you just walk about with a camera taking photos ? I would love to go to an airbase but with my looks I am sure they would think i was planing something fishy !!! especially with a DSLR hagning aroudn my neck ?
