Hi All,

I have an ESXi server at home, its currently using an ASUS P5Q mobo with an ATI x300 in the PCI-E x16 slot.

I want to use a proper LSI based raid card (preferably a Dell PERC 6/i) but they are x8 slot cards.

I'm thinking if a get the Asus P5G41T-M LX board I can use the on-board vga and stick the PERC 6/i in the free x16 graphics card slot.

Does anyone have any idea if this will work ok? I've read in places that putting any card into the graphics slot on certain boards disables the on-board vga...

Advice anyone? would really appreciate it.

Once configured you don't need a graphics card. I run my ESXi completely headless. In my PCI Express slot I have a dual port NIC, over kill sure but it works a treat. Disable everything you don't need aswell - such as printer ports.

When needed I just drop in an old PCI Voodoo 3 card.

i dont have a pci card at hand, if dropping a non-gcard into the x16 slot disables the onboard vga then I wouldnt be able to configure the card...
