Middle East rally star Mohammad bin Sulayem hopes he will get another chance to try a Formula 1 car after crashing a Renault in a demonstration event in Dubai earlier this week.

Bin Sulayem, a 14-time Middle East rally champion and head of the local sporting federation, was participating in a drag race against Renault test driver Romain Grosjean in a sportscar when he lost control of the Renault R28 and spun into the pit wall at Dubai Autodrome.

The crash did significant damage to the 2008 vintage F1 machine, which was in Dubai for several days of events and demonstrations as part of Renault's hugely successful Roadshow programme.

Oh dear! Looks like he gave it a bit too much there! Tail between legs time or what!

Wouldn't want to explain that to renault, made a huge mess of the car, seemed quite a slow accident too.

Just seemed to have too many revs on it from the get go, and as said, cold tyres, dusty track, driver with limited/no F1 experience...disaster was the only predictable ending.

lol @ 138 when some guy shouts "OH MY GOD" then he does it again at 154 and again not long after.

what was the stupid idiot doing giving it so much throttle when the wheels were obviously getting no traction anyway, even after the crash it still sounded like he was giving it throttle
if you watch it in HQ and stair behind the car even wiht youtubes crap compresion every now and again the wheel spin marks will apear behind the car.

it looks like it was just constant rubber from the off until he hit the wall

.
It was driver error. Apparently he was wheel spinning all the way from the line, and on a dusty track with cold tyres, it wouldn't take much to drop it.

Sounded like it. Actually it sounded like he still had the throttle buried even after it was in the wall, unless it was just the time taken for the sound to reach the cameraman.

Epic fail anyway, bet he's popular with Renault. :)
