rampage 2 extreme sound card advice

i was just wondering it it worth upgrading my R2E's soundcard before i build my system as ive heard its a bit rubbish/ok. i want to connect a 5.1 system to it in the near future i was thinking the Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System.
any help will be appreciated

Probably. It's like the laptop soundcards creative make as in it's a bunch of connections on a board with all the actual processing being done via software (ADI's AD2000B CODEC).

The cheapest asus xonar would be better than that imo, and I say that as someone who owns an x-fi, creative software & drivers leave much to be desired

I would like to have some cans for night use but had would thus affect the cabling . would I have to swap cables at the sound card when I swap to headphones ?
