Just a quick rant about MSN 'Live'

Just tried changing my girlfriends hotmail password on MSN Account Services. The pages took on average 3 mins to load and frequently timed out! When we finally got to the change password page and my girlfriend entered her new (alphanumeric) password which was deemed 'weak' by microsoft, the blasted thing booted us out! Plus MSN has been disconnecting me all evening so I'm rather miffed!

If this is a sign of things to come from microsoft we should all start migrating linux now before they force us to buy vista!!! That way at least you know exactly what you're getting as an O/S (the Gentooers amongst you will surely agree)! And its free!!

Anyone else had similar experiences with any of Microsoft's latest 'developments'

Well, its a free BETA. What are you expecting?

Its the same story when people download the IE7 beta and then moan that it has bugs.

BETA versions are work in progress software, why don't you just wait until the real version is released before going off on one how Microsoft sucks at everything etc etc.

its very fast for me. those passwords are nothing - if you have access to their beta newsgroups you have to have an insane password like

Passwords must contain 8-14 characters.
Passwords must contain a combination of upper and lower case characters, numbers and punctuation marks
(& usual stuff no bdays etc etc)

howya gonna remember that :)

+ it is a beta?

I mean i test windows live desktop, yeah i find loads of bugs n such but you kinda expect them in a beta...

Betas are like this, IE7 (latest build) does break most of the IM software out there on the market, Vista 5308 is picky with my hardware, MSN Live doesn't show all my contacts. Its what you have to expect when using beta's just file a bug report and bear it, or alternatively use the previous version! No one said you have to use the Beta stuff!

Offline messaging makes it worth it. I quit ICQ a while ago as my main IM protocol when I found out that offline msging was on the way.

I'd strongly recommend A-Patch (google) to strip out all the bloated crap though. Live has tons of it.

Having no problems here. The new update seems good (I'm easily impressed by pretty colours).
Same here, the new update worked and its flawless, the previous beta version's were also flawless, never had a problem :D

It is still in beta, a lot of the time Microsoft stuff that's in beta can be slow/take a lot of memory. Take Vista for example - beta 1 tooke something stupid like 800mb of RAM... now beta 2 takes 500mb with full settings on, and will probably take even less when they fully release it... it was probably the same with XP (I never tried XP beta). Also MSN 8 first release took about 80mb idle and 100+ with a few windows open, it also had a memory leak on my computer and sometimes took 600mb-1gb until I restarted it to release the memory.

I personally haven't noticed any problems with slowness on Windows Live.
