RANT! whats with people driving up your rear?

Because on average you do many emergency stops per day ?

Not many people get run over so it's a waste of time looking when crossing the road?

TBH i's be worried that the OP was going to speed up as soon as I tried to overtake (no slight meant on the OP but have seen it far too many times when overtaking)

If you're worried about that then drop back a bit and then gain speed to overtake, the speed differential will be great enough to catch them out unless they are in something much more powerful (in which case I doubt they'd be poodling about). This only works if you know the road ahead or you have clear visibility though. All to many times I see people just get on the bum of the car ahead and then pull out for the overtake relying on the fact the driver in the car ahead isn't a weapons grade toerag.

It's very rare that I get tailgated, when I do it's invariably by a Nissan Navaro/Mitsubishi L200 sort of thing.

I drive an Audi though, so maybe it repels all tailgating types, like when you put two magnets together ;)

I was tailgated on last weekend when coming home by a Focus with what looked like a young bloke in the front (couldn't quite see as it was night). I was doing the speed limit and he overtook me, unfortunately it was going round a left-corner and there was oncoming traffic so he had to stop after pulling into the other lane and then pull back behind. Bit odd really, considering he had been tailgating me for about a mile on a straight with no oncoming cars and then there was a roundabout 500 yards after the corner!

I had this on the M6 in heavy rain the other week. An Audi appeared right behind me so close to me that I couldn't even see his lights.

I was in the right lane overtaking cars in the left and middle lanes and there was another car in front of me. Eventually the Audi driver decides he can't bear to wait a few seconds so as the car in the middle lane moves over to the left, Mr Audi decides to go for the undertake. Except that didn't work as the car in front of me then moved over to the middle lane therefore blocking his undertake.

I'm then overtaking two more cars in the middle lane with Mr Audi about 3cm from me so I of course slow down as I'm far from comfortable with this. I was slowing down merely to the speed limit as I may have been a few mph over 70 - didn't even use the brakes, just eased off the accelerator. At the point I can move over I then do so. Of course the Audi driver wasn't happy with having to wait to get a car length ahead on HIS road so he then straddled both the middle and right hand lanes and slammed his brakes on. What an absolute ****. If I thought reporting him to the police would've achieved anything I would've definitely noted his plate down.

Funnily enough though I find that the vast majority of cars that drive irritatingly close to me are Audis. I'm sure this is no coincidence.

You should have just rammed the idiot, as it would have been 100% his fault and he probably would have had his licence taken away, mostly down to the fact he clearly shouldn't be allowed on the road. Reporting it to the police might have actually helped, seeing as he could have caused a major pile up with his childish attitude.

No, not a chance. In fact without witnesses the claim would just go against him as it's the person behind that is responsible for leaving enough room to stop/slow down.
