Rape outside my place of work

Why was she out at 4am you say? In the article it says Open University which means she might have been drinking?

You clearly don't know anything about the OU :p

Our office in Nottingham is purely administrative and we don't have a campus for students to attend anywhere in the country (well, undergrads anyway).

Granted she likely was out drinking but it's very unlikely she was affiliated to the OU.

@ChroniC - It says in the article a 'serious sexual assault'. That sounds like rape/attempted to me, not a pinch on the bum.

Forgive me for not having a sense of humour in a thread about rape.

I realise that, I was just trying to illustrate the idea that it might not have been rape, serious is the only word pointing towards rape, but what serious means is any ones guess.
If a fat bird jumped me and tried to kiss me, I would be SERIOUSLY annoyed :D
RAPE!!!!!

Will girls ever learn that being alone and out in the early hours is not the safest place to be? Especially when they hardly know what they are doing through drink/drugs :(

Exactly. I don't know why she was out in such a dark morning but it has been a very harsh and painful lesson. Whenever I used to come back home from work I would often see some young women all walking by themselves around 10.45pm-11pm especially during friday and saturday nights in winter all dressed up in fancy clothing and I would shudder thinking to myself they will be drawing a lot of attention of 'wolves' nearby.

Young women/girls really need to learn the fact that freedom comes at a price and it is always best to use it reasonbly. They should stay indoor at evening time especially in autumn/winter as nights get very dark and you can feel the danger instinctively.

Once my friend told me that after clubbing he was with his mate and there were 2 nice looking young women all drunked up and they didn't know where they were. His mate started kissing them and they didn't bother pushing him away and he actually wanted my friend to take one for himself and then to the house but thankfully my friend declined. I was disturbed:(.

Sounds like? That's not a fact, you said it like that is what happened.

Rape is one charge.
Sexual assault is another charge.
Rape require unconsent intercourse, sexual assault isn't. If it was rape, i am sure the policed would have said so.

Why was a 17 year old out at 4am? Probably out drinking, nothing special.

Not meaning to detract from the horrific nature of rape but that's a silly question.

probably loads of people walk past my house at 2-5am going home smashed out there faces from the town centre.

half probably arent of age and u see loads of girls on there own its not exactly well lit and safe between town and where i live either

My apologies, it appears serious sexual assault can be forced to perform oral sex or the man performing some other sex act outside of unconsensual sex, not just rape.

I like how you're nitpicking over something like that

One has to wonder why a 17yr old girl was walking alone at 4am..
I know she should be able to but....
A bit of common sense wouldn't have gone a miss here.
£10 you can't really afford for a taxi home or potential to be mugged if you walk.
As a bloke the risks are less but 17yr old girl FFS...

I realy think that rape is heavily under reported and it is also completely stigmatised. I think it is far more common than people would like to think. I also think that drug rape is heavily miss under stood and that people do not know that you can be raped and not even realize it. There are such high quality hypnotics and sedatives out there. That is why when the media decides to report on a case i think it often adds to the problems. I do not have any solutions to it.
