Hi guys,

I run my OS and new games on my 74Gb Raptor. Would I see a benefit with both Windows applications and game loading times etc by installing 2x 150Gb Raptors set up in a Raid 0 array? I've picked the 150Gb model as they seem to be only £20 more than the 74Gb at the moment and might be able to offload my current 74Gb model to my brother in law.

Cheers,

Jed.

Ahhh yes, but how can I build up my posts so I can get on to the members market with just searches ;)

Seriously though, thanks for reply. I know that the main problem with a Raid 0 setup is the increased chance of failure, but any important data will be stored on another drive. So I'm not worried about that aspect, purely on performance.

You can read a good few threads on Raptors, there is peeps here like me who like them (had since launch long ago) and then there is haters.

I aint saying its the best product to buy today though, I await the new Raptors.

do what helmutcheese does and post the following response "try searching". You can use this same generic response to a vast range of questions. Before you know it you will have 5,342 posts.

I await the new raptors, however, unless anyone actually knows if these are going to happen, please post up a reliable source. Ive searched the tinternet high and low, and its only hearsay on forums.

I stand to be corrected but I bet talk of a new raptor is pure gossip based on the fact that the raptor x is now older than the queen mother. Thus people just presume that there must be a new and improved raptor in the pipeline. I would love to see some evidence too.

I now know why I had him on ignore.

I say use search as there is plenty of results and do we need 100 threads the same ?.

I also did input towards the thread.

@ Jed Shields, I dont suppose comments like "Raptors are as old as the Queen Mother" actually help you, hense I suggested SEARCH as recently there was a good few threads from Raptor users.

This is only 1 good comment :
I had a 7200.10 for os and then went to a 74gb Raptor. Really pleased with it, so much I bought another one for raid0..

Would never go back to a 'normal' drive again.

actually i think they do. The point is raptor x's are ANCIENT in computing terms. You say you await the "new raptors", yet you cant provide any evidence that they even exist in a developmental pipeline. Which is one of his later questions.

from the reviews i've seen, the 16mb cache 74gb model is the fastest overall

2 of them in raid0 or 4 of them in raid0 would rock your socks off

Have a look through This thread - many types and sizes of HDD have been benched.

Here is one I posted of 2 x 36GB (16MB cache) Raptors in RAID0.

I think (possibly) the 150GB is the slowest of the the 3 sizes (36GB, 74GB 150GB), and really nothing between the 36GB and 74GB versions.....but in any event there is very little difference between them :)
