I think DDR4 + 13th gen CPUs will still work on the 600 series boards, but they just won't bother with DDR4 for the 700 series boards.

I think DDR4 + 13th gen CPUs will still work on the 600 series boards, but they just won't bother with DDR4 for the 700 series boards.
I might have missed it, but the only 'proof' I've seen is a fairly early presentation slide from Intel that I assume led to many of the press articles, but I haven't seen any confirmation as to the specifics and based on Intel's past history this makes me suspicious of a last minute "hey, by the way, it'll only work on 2 motherboards".

The 24 core 10980XE replacement supports 4 channel DDR5, has a single core boost of 5.2ghz and 4.6ghz all core. MLID says the 24 core part beats the 32 core 3970x

Interesting if true. Calling it 'Alder Lake-X' would be a pretty glaring error, if they release it alongside the 13th generation of Intel CPUs.
I think a 12/16 Golden Cove only product would do well with gamers and enthusiasts. But it's clearly come too late, as it's going up against Zen 4 CPUs.
The quad channel memory would be a very nice thing to have though, especially if the memory controller can run at full speed /1:1.
Intel hasn't confirmed a 1:1 DDR5 memory controller config for the 13th generation either though. It definitely seems to be something they don't want to draw attention to.

3970X: 47,100
5970X: should score 53,000 in R23
5990X: should score 83,500 in R23
12900K P cores only 19,500 X3 = 58,500, That's assuming the same clock speed as the 12900K, which it probably wont be, not even at its PL2 400 watts.
12900K: 260 watts R23 -25% E cores = 195 X3 = 585 watts.
I think at 400 watts it might beat the 3970X, just, not sure about the 5970X. The 5990X is way off in to the distance. its untouchable.

It would be great if Intel did get back into the HEDT market, seems to me AMD is stalling on releasing products because the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 line at sub £2k still has no competition.

A 24 core DDR5 platform from Intel would be great, I'm guessing power consumption means they'll stop there for now considering an all core speed of ~4.5Ghz.
For me the most important thing is HEDT is given a new lease of life. The more critical side would say if Intel's new platform can only beat a 2019 Zen 2 3970X, much work is still to do for them. Golden cove are not the best cores for HEDT due to power consumption but anything that forces AMD to deliver Zen 4 with more than 16 cores is all good from me.

Not even AMD is competing with Threadripper 5000 because it basically doesn't exist, so by default it's 7000 series of course - AMD doesn't care about HEDT users anymore since Intel took a hiatus so we need Intelbto make HEDT again otherwise Threadripper 7000 will be non existent as well

Not in the way you want them to and i get that, but to say they don't exist is not right, they do, you can buy one tomorrow, you just have to do it through one of AMD's OEM partners.
AMD are basically the only option now for HEDT so demand i have no doubt is extremely high, AMD will prioritise their OEM partners and they will be gobbling up the whole damned supply and still wanting more.
CPU sales data says otherwise, Intel has been gaining on AMD since 12th gen was released.
13th gen has a 24 core option for mainstream will further the rate of gains.
14th gen on 7nm (Meteor Lake) - I doubt AMD will be able to compete with this, performance wise. Price wise, they're out of the picture since TSMC upped their prices. AMD not having their own fabs means they'll pay through the nose for TSMC's leading process, that's if Apple allow any leftovers.
