Hi everyone,

I'm showing my new project here, called RarScan, it basically allows you to monitor a directory when downloading multiple parts with a download manager.

Once all parts are done, then the monitor will extract each part for you so you don't have to come back to do the boring task.

So far the only feature is the monitor and extraction. There are no extras.

You don't even need winrar installed on your system.

Current version is an alpha testing version.
I have provided a folder with portable executables so theres no need to install to test.

Feedback on this software is greatly appreciated.

First thing I'd say is that you ought to be able to automatically detect when you've reached the last part. The filesize of all RAR parts other than the last should be identical :)

Other points:
1. You ought to be able to simply point it at a folder and ignore. It's relatively simple to monitor for new RAR files, and easy enough to tell whether it's a multi-part file from the filename.
2. Progress monitor of any sort?
3. Sorry, but this should really be implemented into the download manager ;) Every program I use these days automagically extracts any files it downloads!

I have a Rapidshare account so this could be quite useful as the official Rapidshare downloader doesn't have this feature.

I do agree that the feature should be built into the download manager, however it's still a useful application.

Thanks.

It does point to a file, it's mainly used for multi part rar files, and on the monitoring section of the program, will show you it's status along with progress etc.

The only download manager I know that automatically does this is JDownloader, there are still quite a few that have a different manager, so this would help. I mainly created the program because a friend wanted something to do this and it could benefit me when I download multipart rar files

As above, JDownloader is the only one I think, but it should be a built in feature, but anyway if you want something standalone then yeah rarScan :) once it finally reaches a stable build.

Jdownloader is what I use for MU and it supports a billion websites as well.

You can add premium accounts, and for the majority of websites need have a captcha Jdownloader type them for you

It's usually a good idea to search for these things before you build your own! No point in reinventing the wheel.

Though there are plenty of wheel enthusiasts out there, so no harm in giving it a bash. You might have learned something new, even if no one needs what you created! :p

I guess so, but then again theres always copies of programs out there, some people choose to use one program over another, I guess I can still continue development because it's an almost fully functioning program but not high priority to finish.
