Rate my bass playing skills!

This would sound infinitely better if you removed the melody and samples. I have no idea why you've kept the click track as wel. Quite groovy though, nice bass tone. I'd hardly call it a bass solo though since you're playing a rhythm part.

Bass playing is pretty damned good for a year and a half I'd say.
and I've been playing for 5 years. You have a very rhythmic jazzy style. Reminds me of some of Victor Bailey and Jaco P's stuff - Apart from the electro-noisy-stuff in the background that is.

Is that a Fender Jazz Bass I hear?

The playing is good, but the track is absolutely hideous. If that's your playing after a year and a half, then very good. However, you need to remember that you can learn all of the theory you want (I did), but still have no idea how to write a great tune, or play melodically. I went off my **** on learning theory for years, but have only realised in the last few months that it doesn't make a you a great musician, I would really recommend learning the tunes to some pieces (this is relatively easy to do if you're a jazzer), as it will make your playing much more melodic and enjoyable to listen to.

Very good though, keep up the work and don't lose yourself in theory, I did and it nearly ruined me! :p

Thank you very much and wow, two Nathaniels on one set of forums. :p

Also, the YouTube account doesn't belong to me, it's my step brothers (he filmed me). :)

I'd just like to reiterate this, theory is brilliant for adding nuances to songs to lift them a bit. But if it's just theory behind the entire tune then it just looses soul in my opinion.

You're doing well mate, just don't become a slave to theory!
