Finally wore out the RFTs on our E91 330i SE, so had the appropriate opportunity to change them for some non-RFTS.
Before anyone comments, I have already bought a continental on the spot tyre repair kit to mitigate against a flat whilst out and about.
Did some searching around and narrowed things down to either a set of Continental Sport Contacts, or Goodyear Eagles. The comments on here swayed me towards the CSCs, although I was put off by comments about roadnoise for the CSC5s, so went for the 3s instead.
And the results:
- No idea about grip levels, very rarely get anywhere close to the cars potential nowadays, so that will have to come from other relative road tests
- Ride quality is improved, but it's not night and day. Large road bumps are still transmitted. However, it has definitely improved ride over "coarse" road surfaces, and is almost Jag like in it's smoothness now, which is most definitely a good thing
- Road noise is MUCH improved. This is a major area of improvement and makes general road progress a much more refined expereince
So, happy bunny I am.
For reference, cost was £600 for 225/45/17s (front) and 255/40/17s (rear), including fitting and tracking. I could probably have got it slightly cheaper elsewhere, but I rate out local garage and their general service, so don't mind a slight markup.
