While attempting to create an adhoc wireless network yesterday i somehow managed to lose the internet from my wired connection.
My PC is connected and normally receives the internet from my Draytek Vigor 2600+ ADSL Wired Router. Yesterday i did manage to get an adhoc wireless connection between my PC and laptop so that the laptop could receive the internet.
Then for an unknown reason my PC stopped connecting to the internet. I am running Vista x64 and the Networking and Sharing Centre informs me that the PC is connected fine to my wired network and that it still has an internet connection, however when i open IE7 or Firefox nothing shows up. Any other program that requires the net doen't work either
So Vista thinks it is on the internet when it isn't?? Also now whenever i close down IE7 or firefox, an error saying "IE7/Firefox has stopped working" pops up and then windows cannot find a solution as to why.
I have tried the following things without luck:
1. Disable my wireless ethernet adaptor to remove that from play
2. Check that i'm getting a normal IP address from the router
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling my onboard wired network card's drivers.
4. checked im not in Safe mode in IE
5. Going back to a previous system restore - For some reason i am only offered one system restore point and i have tried rollig back to this without any luck
Another thing is that even though i am connected to my wired router ok (I can still see the other PC's on the network) i now cannot log into the router from my PC, so by deduction the problem seems to be linked with that!?
Any help greatfully appreciated!
