Howdy Guys,

Just out of interest, how far do each of you travel to work each day? my current job requires me to travel 15m there and back, but im also considering taking up a position thats about 25m away... just waiting to hear back from them on how much they pay..

atm 8 miles each way, i did however used to work 37 miles way but there was a few ppl from where i lived working there so we car shared

16 miles a day at the moment. But the job I have an interview for is 27miles each way.

As long as it leaves you enough time to enjoy the evening then anything.

My commute is about 20 miles each way (not meters :p) and it's about as far as I'd want to go. It sorta depends on what kind of roads you'll take though. 30 miles of broad, straight expressways is a lot more tolerable than 10 miles of nasty city traffic.

At first I did 20 miles each way for my placement. It was all up a dual carriageway so it took 25 minutes. No problem.

Then I got moved near the end. 90 miles a day. That was irritating.

Hmm, well I live in a Village just outside of Cannock, and i'd be commuting to Ashby De La Zouche near Leicester, so afaik, its mostly A38.. I'll see if I can get an interview me thinks, see what they have to offer and see if its worth it.. best thing is my current colleauges will be speaking to me still because it's a position at a garage on our Leicester Police scheme..:D

Was that in rush hour traffic?

When I started my new job, I was commuting 80 miles a day... spent about 1/2 of the commute stationary and stuck in traffic. Very very frustrating.

I'm now doing 2pm until 10:30pm which means that the 40 mile trip takes about 45 minutes at a nice comfortable cruising speed. Much prefer it and don't mind working late because of it.

In the past I've worked with contractors who would travel from Northampton to Nottingham and Leeds to Nottingham every day. And these were not short contracts... Always amazed me that people would do that. To me the shorter the better. I always feel like I'm wasting time while driving to and from work. It's more time spent on the road than distance though. IMO if it's more than an hour a day getting too and from work, that's too much.

Don't know how anyone copes with travelling for more than half an hour to get to work or to get home, guess i'm lucky it usually takes me 5 minutes.

Mine's 30 miles each way at the moment, takes about 40mins on average as I don't do it during rush hour.
I'd be willing to do it again for a decent job but it's not really worth it for my current job imo.

For me it is more about how long it takes than how far it is.
I wouldn't want to do longer than 30 mins each way driving. Although if I got the train to London I wouldn't mind a bit longer as I could use a iPod/PSP/DS.

It takes me 30-40 minutes to get to/from work - so between 60 and 90 minutes travel a day.
As I enjoy driving this really isn't a worry for me - although with the current price of petrol I must say I wish I lived a little closer.

The distance is one of the small prices I had to pay when it came to us buying our house.
Live closer to work and get a 2 bedroom house or add a few more minutes to my daily drive and get the 3 bedroom house we are currently paying for.
