Hi guys. I've been looking for a monitor for a while now because I'm still stuck with this hector of a 17" CRT display.

What I've wanted from it is DVI functionality, and a large size (at least 22").I was happy enough going for a Samsung SM2233BW, and I was fine with the resolution of 1680x1050. But then I realised I'd never be able to get a higher res out of it.

Would I get a better long term benefit from a 1920x1080 monitor?

If so should I go for 24"?

I do plan on upgrading my graphics card soon, and I may connect my PS3 to it sometimes (Though I would prefer if the monitor did not have speakers).

What is the best I can go for. I don't really want to go near £150, but if it is worth it, then maybe.

Thanks for any help guys.

Personally I can never have too many pixels, so yes I'd say it was worth it. If your eyesight is good then a 22" screen at that 1920x1080 will be fine. If your eyes are less good or you plan to use it for long periods at a time then you might be better off with a 24". On this site I see a Viewsonic 22" for the same price as the Samsung, and a couple of 24" screens within your stated price range. You might find other options elsewhere. Bear in mind, though, that you're buying right at the bottom end of the market for that resolution at that price whatever actual size you get, so don't expect miracles as far as image quality and features are concerned.

I have taken a look at the Viewsonic and it does seem rather appealing.

I don't know about how good my eyes are, I don' get much eyestrain on the CRT, and keep at least a metre away from the screen.

I'm not looking for a high end monitor. I play games and watch videos. I'll be switching to a high end graphics card soon so I'm getting ready for it.

Well most people will tell you to spend more and get one of these hunkydory Dell or Samsung monitors that are X amount of times better in terms of image quality, supposedly.
I'm in the same boat as you and to be honest when it comes to me buying the monitor I'll simply be purchasing the cheapest reasonable 1080 monitor I find (likely to be either Acer or LG) because the 19" hannspree one I have at the moment is considered sh*te but I think the image quality is fine, and I do a lot of design work in Photoshop/Sony Vegas/After Effects and Solidworks so I'm working with colours quite a lot.

Budget 1080 monitor for the win!
