Hi there today whilst doing a BIOS upgrade, something went horribly wrong. The PC froze and upon reboot my BIOS was corrupted. I tried many things after hours fiddling around trying to get a floppy to work on it and editing autoexecs and batch files with commands to run the flash utility I still have a borked MOBO.

I was going to upgrade but not this soon, does anybody have any reccomendations? Is the P5K Deluxe worth looking at?

I will be getting a new BIOS chip for the AW9D MAX and possibly selling.

Any input will be much appreciated.

Thanks Nick

you should be able to remove the on-board battery, leave it for 10 mins or so, reinsert and hopefully update your bios from floppy, i.e. a non-edited version, hth. :)

oh yeh, clear the cmos with the on-board jumpers to ensure a level playing field before flashing the bios.

p.s. If you're determined to change, the P35 boards do look sweet.

Just this week I b0rked my AW9-D Max with a BIOS flash that went bad. Unless you're certain the boot block if fubared, you can maybe recover it with a floppy.

One thing that the manual doesn't say or anywhere during the POST sequence is that you need to hit Alt-F2 and keep repeating as soon you turn on in order to trigger the recovery from floppy. Just leaving the disc in isn't enough as it doesn't automatically search for the drive. I got mine back to life this way and it's all fine again.

As for upgrades, I have an Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus in a box that I have only tested once. My brother has the exact same board and we both had the same issues - built new system and neither would POST. We both were using 2x1GB Ballistix PC5300 and 4MB L2 conroes, however the problem is generally memory related. Despite this I couldn't even boot either board with a single 512MB, 1.8V stick of Kingston value DDR2. My bro left his overnight with the CMOS battery in the wrong way and in the morning it posted with the Crucial in, then he set the Vdimm to 2.1V and he has had no problems since. However I cannot recommend the board since I cannot get mine going still.

Contact Sean at Abit UK and he'll arrange a new BIOS chip for you. It might cost £10 or so, but it's much cheaper than a new board and they are usually VERY fast in the turnaround.

After coming from what could only be described as a non-existent support operation in the UK, Abit have really got their act together in my opinion and that was a major influence on me buying an Abit board recently after giving them a miss for over a year after some issues with my old AL-8's.

Brilliant, I will try what has been suggested later when I get home. I was under the impression it was totally dead by the fact that not even with it reading the floppy drive nothing was happening.

I will contact the guy from ABIT to.

Thanks Nick
