Received a "Notice of Distress Warrant" wrongly!!!?

The lady on the phone said to send a council tax bill to avoid it going any further, so hopefully should be resolved. Only thing bothering me is i have to put in the effort and money (albeit small) to prove innocence for something they cocked up.

I seriously think Inland Revenue and Customs should compensate you for putting you under unnecessary stress, expense (however minor), and as you say, effort you shouldn't have been forced to expend for their mistake. Once it's over, I would write to them with a serious letter of complaint demanding some form of compensation.

I'd be absolutely furious in your position Craterloads. Furious. I've no idea if the HMRC are obliged to make compensation payments to people they wrongly harass, but I'd be writing a letter asking for it anyway. What the company they've subcontracted to have done is disgusting and negligent.

Fancy writing me a letter (again) :p

When they turn up just show them proof of occupancy, either a rent book or mortgage documents for the property, tell them the guy doesnt live there and has never lived there, nothing they can do then

They once tried getting into our property while i was at work regarding a previous owner,my missus kicked off and went mad at them, they demanded to see a rent book or such like and when she did their whole attitude changed, she then told them to **** *** back down our garden path and never come back, they never did :)

Surely if they have been instructed by the court the your sister should have also received notices of impending action from the court itself?
