Received a replacement monitor under warranty, but I'm stuck with the broken one still

Back in May my 32" AOC monitor that cost me £400 suddenly stopped working after about a year of use.

It was just-about under warranty so I went through AOC support and after about 4-weeks of tedious emails they agreed to send a replacement, which arrived towards end of June. They told me I could use the box from the replacement to return the broken unit, which they then arranged a collection for.

The collection was booked for July 1st but nobody came to collect it. It was then re-booked for July 8th and again nobody turned-up.

That was 2-weeks ago and I'm still stuck with the huge box in my hallway. I'm also moving home in a few weeks and I really don't want to take it with me.

I've not had a reply to my last email so I get the impression that they aren't that bothered about the broken monitor.

Anyone had any similar experience?

If they still haven't collected it within the next 3-weeks or so, I'm wondering if I can just bin it, or would they eventually catch-up with me and demand I pay for the replacement?

I'd send them an email, asking them to respond within a reasonable time. 7 days? If not, I'd ebay it.

Not sure on the legality of this though.

Sounds to me like you have given them ample opportunity to collect the monitor, if they fail to do what they say then it’s their own fault. Your hallway is not a warehouse for them, and your time is not theirs to spend.

I would send them an ultimatum email saying if it’s not picked up by a certain date then you will dispose of it yourself.

Keep an audit trail of all communications with them just in case, but if they don’t come to collect just chuck it.

I had this happen to me before, the replacement they sent me had bad back light bleed and dead pixels so they sent me a third unit. The original unit was collected but the first replacement wasn't. After a few weeks of nothing I unboxed it as a second screen and put it on my desk and used it for a couple of years until it died itself. The 3rd unit is still going though.
