Receptionists

The receptionists at my dentist are always friendly and courteous, also attractive, but that's besides the point.

Doctors surgery receptionists, in my experience, are just a pain in the back side. Usually rude and think they know just as much as the GP......

all they need are big bristols, low cut tops and short skirts, everything else is superfluous to requirements.

I was quite ill last year and decided not to go to my GP because I couldn't get past the receptionist. I had never (and still have never) seen the GP since moving into the area - only registered with the health centre at the front desk. As a result I didn't know the name of my GP or what practice he was from. For this reason the woman would not give me an appointment. She refused to look up on her PC to see whether I was with her practice or the one next door (2 feet away at the next desk!)
I just gave up and suffered through the pain.

The dentist receptionist is a right stuck up cow. peroxide blonde hair and it looks as if she has had a facelift thats gone wrong. I detest having to speak to her. She can be so rude at times and also has the most annoying squeaky voice.

yea dentists seem the worst... a few years ago when i was on job seekers the receptionist/dentist assistant or whatever job title she calls her self came out with some rude comment about me beeing on benefits..

i think i countered with something about the flyers they had been posting through the neighbourhood about having "nhs" placements obviously aimed at people on benefits..

shut her right up though :D

i know technicaly you can really call librarian a receptionist but they always seem uber friendly

edit ,dont know why people seem to have such a hard time seeing a GP on here... at my surgery i can phone up and ask for an apointment and even specify which GP i want to see.

My dentist's receptionist makes Adriana Lima look rather bland. It's very discorncerting to have just had work done to then be met by a goddess who relieves you of considerable sums of money.

The receptionists (3 of them) at my GP makes you feel like you are just bothering them from doing something else.

They are utterly useless. I was waiting for a callback for a appointment but didn't receive any. I went in the next day and asked why and they said they had kept calling the home phone numerous times but it was wrong and someone else was answering. When I pointed out that my mobile number was written down right next to it they just got angry with me an got even more hesitant to help me.

I agree it's not their job to search for peoples numbers but seriously, they called 5 times or so and every time someone else answered  Common sense ahoy!

You would think when your job is to organise stuff like this and you can't even do that....

so we all seem to agree that GP receptionists are spawn of the devil...my own dealings yesterday where in Eastleigh and 2 practices are sharing the same waiting room, I asked the wrong receptionist for some information and got short shrift from her saying she wouldnt help me and couldnt if she tried in a snotty way. "read the notice"...its on the reception desk and she said "yes next" in a dismissive tone to engage me before I could have read it...silly mare.

We complained about our local receptionist and I haven't seen her since :D

I miss the receptionist from my GP in Chandlers Ford, she was so lovely :(

They can be so incompetent, receptionist fetches my prescription, I say "there's supposed to be two", she then spends nearly 5 mins typing on the computer to tell me that the doctor wouldn't prescribe another because it had already been done a few days ago, I tell her that I didn't pick up the one from a few days ago, she then goes to the box and immediately picks it up, why the hell did she just spend 5 mins on the computer instead of taking another glance in the prescription box? And why on earth did the computer system not tell her that I hadn't picked it up?

Our surgery receptionists are like the Maginot Line but it is possible to outflank them.

Jesus, I must be the only person here who thinks the receptionists at my GP surgery are fantastic! Unfortunately I've had way too much contact with them recently, but they've been friendly, courteous and efficient every single time. It's so easy to tell they've been on a decent customer skills course :)

I can't say I've encountered more than a couple of receptionists that were anything but lovely!

It shouldn't, but I think a smile goes a long way! :D

Ours is alright, and perhaps unsurprisingly given my location, its a bloke :p

My number one source of office gossip aswell, even if he likes to put his own spin on it/sensationalise it.

Our receptionists are superb, polite, efficient and friendly.
The amount of grief they take on the desk from nutjobs on the phone, people being demanding is incredble and has become much worse in the past couple of years.

People assume turning up late for their appointment is okay if they give the receptionist enough crap or become angry enough that it suddenly doesn't become their fault.

You might meet a receptionist who you think is rude, they might be rude, or they might have just had 4 people from hell battering down on them all morning.

Chap who wanted two prescriptions, why didn't you state you had two to collect, one from several days ago when you asked for them, rather than waiting for one to arrive and then wonder where the other is. Help others to help you. Saves you grief in the longrun.

I find most places I go have friendly reception staff, but dealing with 'the public' all day long takes its toll. They take abuse they don't deserve and generally from people who are at fault, and think then become angry and aggressive is the issue. Not a wonder NHS morale is at an all time low.

I have sympathy for GP receptionists, that job is not one I could ever do. In the morning you are glued to the phone, in the afternoon you've got people shouting at you and at the end of each day you'll be getting shouted at again by the daft buggers who forgot to order prescriptions.

I work in IT support for GP practices - I see the abuse they get and frankly I'd rather work on an IT helpdesk than be a GP receptionist!
