RAM: OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2
MOTHERBOARD: Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Recently built a PC, all went well except it will only recognize one of the mem chips. Initially it wouldn't recognize either but after a bit of swapping around i got one to work. With one of them working I was hoping I'd able to simply up the voltage in the bios and everything would be fine. Ive upped it to 2.1v and still nothing. Is there anything else I can try to get this working?

Thanks.

Thanks for responses...To clarify, I have both XP and Vista 64 installed, however it doesnt allow me to post with both mem chips in. (I havent updated the BIOS).

Im fairly reluctant as the system itself is more than stable. Is it worth updating the bios? (just for the extra ram?). Will it majorly affect things if it goes wrong...?

Stick 2 sticks in boot into bios

set memory @ 2.2v
Timeings : 5.5.5.15
Up your Northbridge voltages 2 notches aswell as your southbridge.

save settings/ shutdown system and put one stick in at a time once in the bios save settings and shutdown again then place the last stick in and start system up,

it should work...

Sounds promising...i will give it a go in a bit and post back...thanks for reply.

Sorry just to clarify, with 2 sticks in, it wont allow me to get to bios. Can i change to your recommended settings with just one stick in?

OK, bear with me on this, not done before.....with the mem timings which do i change....tcl, trcd, trp, tras, trfc, twr, twtr, trrd, trtp?

EDIT: Ive found out which ones are which now.

I must have a faulty mem stick. If i take out the one that works and replace it with the other one in the same slot it doesnt start up. Put the other one back in and it starts up fine. I guess i'll have to purchase some other mem (any recommendations?) and in the meantime stick with 2GB, which to be fair isnt causing any hassle....thanks for your input everyone.

Nossmayo - you seem correct. If it boots with stick A , but not with Stick B then I'd suggest stick B is knackered. Memory mapping management is some bios option that you _might_ need to use to 'see' all 4 Gigs in Bios.

I cant see it being anything else to be honest. Is it possible to send it back? Do you think they would accept and change it i mean? Alternatively, should i chance buying the same RAM again or is there a decent alternative? I'd like to complete my first build as i intended, which was with 4GB, although as previously stated i am currently not having any problems running it with just 2GB.
