Recognising people

Whenever im out with my gf I see countless people and they say Hi ect but whenever im out on my own I stroll along like im not there :)

Some people are nice and want to say hi others really dont care imo ;p

I'm interested in how well OcUKers recognise people - on the bus, bus stop, café, pub, work and people you've not seen for years. Maybe it's my eyesight (I wear a -26.5 lens), but people regularly seem to recognise me and I haven't the faintest idea who they are. Like for example:

1. I live in Stafford and sometimes go clubbing in Birmingham. A girl comes up to me and say "are you from Stafford?" And I'm like "yeah, how did you know?" "Oh I've just seen you about".

2. We employ a new lady in purchasing. She recognised me, saying that she's seen me on the bus countless times. Yet she's 6' 4", so I should have seen and remembered her but once again I'm clueless.

3. I go on holiday to Tenby, some 220 miles away. When queuing up at an ice cream van, an elderly couple spots me and said "We live just down the road from where you are in Stafford!"

Then I get people from uni who I've not known and say hi to me. Plus, I've had people correctly identifying me from the old Sundissential board (same user name), yet I have no ability of my own to suss them out from photos.

Is what I've written here regarded as normal? Are people usually this good at recognition?

Translation - I stick out like a bloody iron-spiked ***** in a nunnery.

One of my biggest failings is my poor memory for names and faces.

I have been approached by loads of people who say "hi john, hows things?"

I just have to give them a blank look and bluff untill they say something about either where we worked, trained, went to school because I literally will not have a clue.

I was filling the car up a couple of weeks ago and a guy pulled up at the next pump and said, "blimey, long time no see john, hows things? still at Interlink?"

Now I dont remember this guy at all, certainly dont remember working with him, and he doesnt look like any of the customers I used to deliver to or collect from, so I figure he knows me from football or something.

No, it turns out he DID work with me at Interlink, and I fired him for not being a very good driver.

Honestly, not a clue, seemed a nice guy though,

I am very good at spotting random things, especially geeky stuff no one else would but when it comes to people I am hopeless.

Me and my friends try and "spot" people in movies from previous ones and i am hopeless. My mate will be like that extra had a minor part in some film from 10 years ago and I am like WTF.

Some people are better at different things I suppose. I have never been a "people person".

Ive never ever seen a prescription worse than -12!!!!

Personally, I have a form of face blindness. I can sometimes recognise people, but no idea where, when, or what there names are. Its very very difficult to remember a name of someone I have know less than a couple of years. And even after a few months I have already forgotten their name!

I'm definitely -26.5. Without it, you're essentially looking through a frosted glass window. Wearing it, I see about 2 metres.
Even with them you only see about 2 meters? That would explain not recognizing people then! You thought about contacts? I was talking to my optician a while back about whether contacts would be a good idea for me (about -10.5) and he reckoned over -20 or so glasses just don't work. I'm sure you've thought about those options though:)
