My wants me to get him a new game for christmas as he's bored of having played Civilisation every day for about 6 years.

Basically all he wants is another Civilisation type game but neither he or I know of any good ones. Alternatively he'd like a Golf sim game although he only has a laptop so a golf sim might be too graphically demanding.

Thanks muchly.

Yeah Anno or maybe a total war game (not quite civ builder but still very good rts style games).
I think a new settlers game is in production too so he could look out for that.

try the total war series, if you just stick to auto resolving battles its like playing civilization

although my dad loves watching the battles

Why not look at older games? In terms of strategy i feel command and conquer red alert 2 and Dungeon Keeper 2 are yet to be bested. Clearly graphics aren't something that matters to him so they seem like a good idea to me.

Apologies if this is a really stupid question, but you say he has played Civilisation for about 6 years.

Is that every incarnation of Civilisation, or just the one which was out at that time? If the latter, then CiV 4 with all the addons = win.

Civ 4: Colonization? It's a fun respin of the Civ concept.

From my experience of Anno 1404, it quickly felt like work, rather than fun. Nobles are far too difficult to keep happy.

You can get Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Complete Edition for less than £5 now from online retailer, so worth a punt if not tried it. Includes Warlords and Beyond The Sword expansion packs.

Medieval Total War II - Stay clear of the newer "Empires" version as it's not as much fun and tactically it's pretty boring.

My dad loves MTWII and he's a bit of a technophobe in his late 60s!
