recommend a P35 board please

The Abit loses a point because of the Ethernet performance but lets get real here, it still 700Mbits/sec - more than enough for home use.
on the other hand you can use the 2 physical x16 slots at x16 & x4 & the other PCI-E x1 is still usable - afaik the Gigabyte's get disabled.
It's a con & a pro of a design decision.

I have to smile at threads like these because the decision making process generally boils down to something really esoteric - like whether the network port is marginally faster on one board than the other. Unless you are an unusual user, your only network connection is to the modem/router that gives you internet access. That runs at a fraction of the rated speed of the network connection. Even if you are streaming audio/video the differential is likely to be miniscule.

You could spend days/weeks/months agonizing over this, but the bottom line is that they are both superb motherboards. You will not regret buying either board. Toss a coin if you have to, but you won't make a bad choice from those two.

WJA96,
What you say is true regarding internet connectivity. However, if you run a full backup every couple of days (I don't like incrementals for home users, they're crap) and have a gigabit enabled network then the networking performance can be considerable, especially if, like me, you want to backup to a NAS device and the backup is 60 or 70 Gigabytes. It makes a difference.

However, for the puposes of this thread, the 200Mbits sec difference is still small enough not to be a worry, certialy not enough to disuade me from the Abit. After all, 900Meg versus 700Meg/sec? Nothing to worry about for the vast majority of users, myself included.

Cheers,
Steve
