Hi all,

I bought a WII for my kids this Christmas, it is downstairs in the living room, and my PC and my wired internet connection are upstairs in the study.

I would like to hook the WII up to the internet and at the same time set up the study for a wireless connection so I can use my PDA on it when required.

I am looking to spend around £50; I want something that is very simple to set up, with decent security that doesn't require a rocket scientist to manage it.

There appear to be a lot on the market that would suit me, please would somebody point out the best one for me.

BTW, I am on NTL 10Mb connection if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Bryan

AFAIK the Wii is Wi-Fi enabled out of the box so all you will need is a wireless router. I'd suggest the Linksys WRT54G. It's rock solid and has many security options such as MAC filtering and WPA protection. It can be had for around £40, most vendors that sell it are competitors so do a google search for WRT54G.

Thanks Splitz,

That is the one I seem to be swaying towards, looked at the PDF manual though and all the details in it kind of put me off. Though It might be that I don't need to read half the the stuff in it.

Whilst I am no numpty, I need something fairly simple, which won't compromise my intenret security. I am in the middle of a terraced estate, I don't wnat every tom, dick, and harry leeching off me.

Maybe I should just give it a go, if I don't feel comfortable with it, £40 is not too much to waste.

I'd suggest a WRT54GL over the WRT54G. They're fairly similar, except the GL runs linux in place of VXWorks, and has more RAM.

I second this unless you can get a nice used WRT54G version 3 or below from an auction. They're essentially the same. Pay as little as you can. :)

It is very easy to use when you have a basic understanding of its options. Admittedly the Linksys guides aren't that great and I had a play and taught myself how to use it. If you need any help most guys on here know their stuff and if you want one-on-one help then MSN me (tag in trust profile).

DD-WRT has excellent documentation. ;) :D

Yeah I have had DD-WRT for a long time, it is very good :) Currently testing SP3 21/12/06 and no problems as of yet .
