Hi guys. I'm looking at buying a new graphics card to replace my ATI 5770 as I'd like a better BF3 experience (seems the card makers are making huge profits in the last month from people upgrading :D).

The way I want to do it, is sell my 5770 - Had a look on ebay and there's only a couple of used ones, so I'm not sure whether it'll sell at all, but around £50 seems to be the price, and I'd be happy with that.

Then (well, before) buy a new card which comes with free games that I can sell off to get some money back. The only thing is that the games (batman, dirt 3 and deus ex) are not worth much, only about £25 on ebay :( So not much money to get back, but still, £50 from my card and £50 from the games then £50 I can put down I could get a £150 card.

So please, recommend me a £150 including delivery card. I don't know the difference between ATI and nvidia, and to be fair from what I've heard there's not much in it so I'm not bothered whether it's one or the other so long as it's better (and I'm talking about noticeably better, not a couple of mhz better) than my old 5770.

Regards :D

Can I point out that my 5770 is clocked to 900 Mhz core and 1400mhz Memory. Just looking at the 6870 cards and they look very good!

Interesting question. It started off as kharekatoh about 4 or 5 years ago. I had a roleplay book that I was trying to read and there was a port called khare, it was on the front cover. I quite liked the name, and at the time I had a poster up on my wall oh a Japanese Motogp rider called Daijiro Kato. I mixed Khare and kato, and added the H at the end for no reason hehe. Kharekatoh was my username for a number of years until people started knowing me as khare on the VW community, both online and in person (I am member of a few VW Golf forums). Eventually I shortened it to khare :) Loads of people ask me how it's pronounced, I've heard from krakatoa (volcano) to Curry-cat-toe hahaha!

Khare is as in kerry, but with an a rather than e, and not so much emphasis on the rr. A bit like The footballer Kaka and "re" as in recruit, without the cruit obviously. Ka-re.
Katoh is again Ka, but the toh is said as in like tour without the r. So Ka-tou. Ka-re-Ka-tou.

Long explanation to a username hahaha

What's your view on a refurbed card? 1 year warranty I think pretty much cover any possible problems, if anything goes wrong from a repaired card it'll be in the first few months right?

nothing yet, but I've got that refurbed GTX 470 in mind, I think I'll order it tomorrow. Powerful card, 1 year warranty and cheap for what I'll be getting. Hopefully my EZCool tornado 750w PSU can handle it :D Should be fine, even thought it's not a great PSU.

Arrived today. Got the PNY one rather than OEM. It's HUGE comrpaed to the 5770, just about fits in the case!

The only thing that has me worried is temperature got to 91C playing BF3, then the game crashed :(

I'm not sure whether it's down to temperature or something else. I know these cards run pretty hot. Is there a manual fan control like on ATI CCC? I don't mind the noise from the PC, so running it at 100% fan speed is ideal for me :)

I'm getting some stuttering while playing too, anyone shed any light on this? Oh and finally, I'm finding it pretty hard reading the letters on the screen when not in game. I know ATI had a feature that turning it on did this but improved gaming performance, I'm sure Nvidia has the same and it's currently on, but I'd like to disable it to improve visuals when browning etc.

Finally, any specific OC recommendations with this card? Upping the voltage a notch to improve stability maybe?
