Recommend me a fantasy book about a warrior

Not quite set in a fantasy world in the strict sense as it's loosely based on a true story but Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield (a fictional account of the battle of Thermopylae) is good.

One of the baddest Warriors who has ever lived, though not fantasy.

Waylander, Skilgannon and Druss - three of the best conceived heros/warriors ever IMO. Sparhawk was always a bit obvious to me. I'd love to find another writer like Gemmel.

The Painted Man by Peter V Brett.

The main character turns into a warrior, somewhat.

Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. A very flawed hero is the main character. Good books but they can be slow, in some places VERY slow.

Eddings gets slammed here for some reason though.

I'm in two minds about Eddings, I've read a lot of his books but there always seems to be something missing from them.

More historical fiction than fantasy but a good read nonetheless are the Conn Iggulden books based on the Mongols.

The Roman Empire ones based on Caesar are also pretty decent too.

I have picked up Legend by David Gemmell which looks like just what I was after.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson also looks good but I will probably pick that up after I have read Legend.
I'll be sure to look into all the other recommendations as well.

legend is crack cocaine if your into the Heroic fantasy type reading.. Druss is a magnificent character and some of Gemmells books are very good, but light reading. The Rigante series is very good. Enjoy legend it opened a room full of new reading for me when I first read it.

The Renshai Trilogy by Mickey Zucker Reichert are pretty good, or at least I thought so 15 years ago.

Battle Circle trilogy by Piers Anthony - I have only read the first 2 but quite enjoyed them, it's post apocalyptic fantasy about warrior types.
