Looking to get a second monitor to pair with my older style 24" aluminium iMac, so needs to have a height adjustable stand or be a good match for the iMac from the get go). Can be 21-24", preferably 16:10 but I can possibly stomach a 16:9.

Should be good for gaming, and have hdmi :)

Thanks for the help.

I imagine that you will be wanting an IPS screen to match the quality of the panel in your iMac.

What is your budget?

The cheapest 24in IPS monitor worth getting is the HP ZR24W - here is a review.

The Dell U2410 and HP LP2475W are also great monitors - however they are more expensive and are wide gamut models, which often throws up issues.

I have the samsung 2494HM 23.6" monitor,
the HM model has a fully adjustable stand, portrait mode, brilliant colours, nice and bright.
The problem is its 16:9, but nowadays its very hard to pick up a new model 16:10, the only 24" monitors for 16:10 that I've found are old.
The only bad qualities about this monitor is there is no RTC (Response Time Compensation), so you get a native 5ms picure. This means you do get ghosting if 2 contrasting colours are changing very quickly over eachother. Not terribly noticable but its there.
The plus to this monitor is its great panel quality (besides ghosting (barely noticable unless you're looking), fully adjustable stand (its quite spectacular), usb hub, DVI, VGA and HDMI connections also.

My friend has the T240, which is 16:10, brilliant quality except the stand is NOT adjustable and it has the samsung "plum" bezel which means its kind of round and ugly.

Just my 2 cent.
